Let's Chat: Summer Beers

The long weekend is here, for many of you that means spending time with family and friends. If you are anything like me, a beer is in hand when I am socializing. Whether you are on a boat fishing, on the deck barbecuing or on the front steps breathing in some fresh air, a cold one can make that experience even better. Even as I write this post I have a Bud Light and Clam in my hand. It's a refreshing beverage and helps you loosen up from a long week of whatever you have been doing! Everyone has their favourite and everyone is always open to trying something new. I will share my top three favourite Summer beers.

1. Corona
My all time favourite is a bottle of Corona with lime. Sharing a 12 pack with the family or guys (who enjoy it as much as I do) makes every bottle even more enjoyable. It's a great way to end a week or start up a weekend.

2. Miller Genuine Draft
MGD is great year around actually. I love having bottles when I am barbecuing, eating burgers or sitting around the fire. The point is, I find that it goes great with all food.

3. Original 16
Is it cliche that I selected and stand behind my city's brewery? I don't think so, it is a real competitor in the beer industry. Pitchers of Original 16 after a soccer game with my team when we're celebrating or crying about our loss makes it an essential for Summer.

Now I'm interested to hear about your favourite Summer time beverage, I wouldn't mind trying something new.

Just a Taste: Windows

Location
Windows is located on Spadina inside of the Sheraton Cavalier Hotel.

Environment
The restaurant is connected to an appealing lobby. The dining area is long, wherever you sit you are able to take a glance out of a window to see the park. But the restaurant itself is nice too, there is nice decor and colours. There is an area for a buffet, on certain days you are able to dine from it. The service too was good.

Menu
There is two pages of delicious choices. You can select appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers, pizzas and more. It was so hard to order because of the well descriptive choices from the pesto chicken panini to the pulled pork sandwich. There is even a weekly burger and pasta dish.

Food
I had to go with the Farm Burger, which was this weeks burger feature. It was a burger with back bacon, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, a sunny side up egg and sun-dried tomato aioli. My dad always told me that a messy burger is a good one and he was absolutely right! The thick slices of back bacon and sunny side up egg was a hell of a combination, making me want it again but for breakfast instead. It came along with a large side of fries, which were nothing special. If I could, I would grab a tossed salad next time.

Conclusion
I will be back, the lunch menu was ridiculous. There are so many things that I want to try again and the service only increased the experience.

Concert: Metric

Ho boy, The Saskatchewan Jazz Fest is back in full swing this year. Last night I had the privilege of seeing Metric for the third time in my short life time.

Opening up for Metric were Saskatoon's favourite dance beat bands, We Were Lovers, and for sure they set the mood of the night with their mad catchy songs. After We Were Lovers were a two person group, Data Romance, hailing from Vancouver who gathered in the crowd quite nicely with their two manned big sounded songs.

I was afraid that the concert was gonna get rained on, but luckily everything cleared up half way through We Were Lovers' set.

I gotta give it up for Metric because they're the one band that I've been listening to from the get go that has remained consistent in their music and their live shows. That's definitely not a bad thing, because 1. if they were getting too wild with 'trying out new sounds' and what not, they'd probably lose me and 2. their live shows are dazzling and so full of energy courtesy of the lovely lovely Emily Haines. Who I mean, dang. I love her, and you wouldn't know it at first glance but she's pushing 40 years old.

Seeing as Synthetica was their most recent album, much of the show was based around the new songs. But of course they had a handful of throwbacks like Empty from "Live It Out" and Dead Disco from "Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?" closing out their set.

Video Courtesy of Youtube user https://www.youtube.com/user/blindspirit?feature=watch>blindspirit

They put on a great show and you can tell they definitely feed off the energy from the crowd and vise versa. It was essentially an infinite loop of hype and excitement.

Drew Tofin Band | June 20, 2013

Today at Louis on campus, the Drew Tofin Band will be performing at 7 pm. There will also be a special guest performing. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $12 here or for $15 at the door. He has quite the personality, making him not only a great singer but comedic as well. He may not be part of the Jazz Festival, but damn he would fit right in.

The LEGO Movie Trailer

After being in production for almost five years, this movie is set to release on February 7, 2014. Lego has always been among my favourite toys, making me excited. The voice actors for this movie include some serious heavyweights such as Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman, Will Ferrell and Elizabeth Banks.

Nike | Solarsoft Moccasin Woven

Just like rice and my meals, Nike's are a staple in my wardrobe. Every Summer there is something new that I need. These have to be my 2013 Summer joints, comfort over everything. These use Nike's Solarsoft technology, a cushioned sole with a ripple textured insole making it a great barefoot shoe. The upper is suede and leather, the woven stitch allows the shoe to be quite breathable too. Unfortunately this model is not available in Canada but you can easily find it online. My brother believes that this is Nike's take on the Crocs.

J. Cole | Born Sinner Stream

NSFW

Enjoy this full stream of J. Cole's album. It will be for sale on June 18, along with Yeezy's "Yeezus". Some of my personal favourite's include Villuminati, Power Trip, Forbidden Fruit, Chaining Day and Crooked Smile. But don't take it from me, listen to the entire album. Each track is hot, J. Cole is one of the realest hip hop artists out there! If you get a chance, see him live.

Soccer Bible | Collin Eder speaks on the Nike Premier

If you go on any soccer or even fashion blogs/forums, you see that the Nike Premier is receiving a lot of attention. Being compared to the iconic adidas Copa Mundial, a lot of love and hate has been shared. Eder speaks about the inspiration and idea behind the shoe. The things that I love about the introduction of this shoe is the kangaroo leather that seems to be disappearing from the soccer market, the weight of the boot and the fact that this shoe will be available season to season in the same colour. You will see professional soccer players who are still wearing models from previous years. Soon you may see JJ and myself in a pair of these.

Wale Ft. Sam Dew | LoveHate Thing

A lot of good albums coming out this month, it's an exciting time for hip hop fans. Kanye West, J. Cole and Wale all have me on the edge of my seat. But to keep us happy, Wale released a lyric video for one of his CD's tracks.

Air Jordan V | Aqua

This Saturday (June 15, 2013) is the release of the Jordan V "Aqua" or "Black Grape". This is the first release of this colour way on this silhouette. A black nubuck sits on the "Grape" midsole and makes quite the combination. These will be for sale at about $200 and will once again be found at retailers such as Foot Locker and Momentum.

FIFA 14 Trailer

I am always looking forward to the most recent FIFA game. I feel like even those who dislike soccer enjoy the game too. In the past, I have felt that each version has surpassed the previous game with its game play and game modes. I hope that I am impressed again, I really look forward to playing this.

Just a Taste: Kebab and Donair

Location
Kebab and Donair is on Central Avenue in Sutherland right beside Wing World and Vern's Pizza.

Environment
Kebab and Donair is open for lunch, supper and even late on Fridays and Saturdays. You can come here after a late night at the Scuz. The restaurant has simple decor and fixtures but the focus is on the food. The guys behind the till and in the kitchen are really nice and are always helpful.

Menu
The restaurant focuses on Middle Eastern flavours and dishes. They serve falafels, shawarmas, rice platters, kebab platters and much more.

Food
I ordered a medium sized falafel and fries. The food was delicious and full of flavour, the falafel was seasoned nicely and was filling. No matter what size you get, they fill that pita up! You can choose the fillings and sauces as if it were a Subway. The fries were good too, I ordered them because someone once told me they were the best in the city. I can't say that they were the best, but they are definitely worth ordering on the side.

Conclusion
I like the staff here, the food is good and it makes a good midnight snack. Also because it's conveniently close to my home, I will be back

It's simple, drink as much as you can/want for the two hours. Our team is just looking for an excuse to make an event and get people together to have a fun time. A lot of the girls love hosting events and well partying too. Whether we have met or not, you are invited. If we have met, well then I hope that you would make an appearance!

For those of you who like a summary:

Date: Friday | June 8, 2013
Time: 8-10 pm

Place: Hose & Hydrant

Cost: $15

Wale Ft. Rihanna | Bad (Remix)

Bad gal RiRi steps on to Wale's track replacing Tiara Thomas. Lyrics are also replaced with new ones, making this song an actual remix. I truly enjoy the original, but I like the sassiness of this version.

I have found myself with this song on repeat lately. Both because I like the song and because I find it funny that Lupe speaks about most modern rappers.

Nike | Premier

This is the new Nike Premier, which was inspired by the heritage boot decades ago. This is a model to compete with the current Copa Mundial, Mizuno Morelia and Puma King. It features a kangaroo and goat leather and conical studs. If you have never played with a k-leather, you have never lived. This classic boot, bypasses gimmicks and all the new jazz that is marketed towards us. Weighted at about 8.6 oz. makes it ideal for even the modern player.
